Does it seem like you’re constantly having to call on your commercial plumber to service your Indianapolis office building? Plumbing problems are common in large buildings; however, with some simple education, you may be able to cut down on the frequency of the problems. Your employees simply might not know that their daily habits are causing plumbing problems in the building. At Quality Plumbing and Heating Inc., we encourage you to educate your employees on these three most common (and avoidable) plumbing problems.
1. Drain Clogs
Drain clogs are very common in larger buildings with many drains. Whether you have a full kitchen in your office or just bathrooms, your employees might not know what can and cannot go down the drains. They might be unknowingly putting food items down the kitchen sink or flushing things down the toilet that should never be flushed. Try posting signs in the kitchen and bathrooms reminding employees what can and cannot be flushed or rinsed down the drain, and we believe you’ll see a decrease in clogged drains.
2. Broken Garbage Disposals
We understand that not every office comes equipped with a full kitchen, but if your staff kitchen has a garbage disposal, it’s important to note it’s limitations. Often, people think that a garbage disposal can handle just about anything; however, it is not actually the heavy duty machine that the name would suggest. Remind your employees that rinsing starchy foods, fibrous foods, or hard things like bones and fruit pits can cause serious damage to the disposal. Again, a sign posted by the kitchen sink would likely help the situation greatly.
3. “Silent” Leaks
While this plumbing problem isn’t caused by employees, it can go unnoticed if your employees do not report the problem. Leaks can happen any time in toilets or sinks and if you have several toilets or sinks in your building, you might not notice right away. Encourage your employees to speak up if they notice any problems with the plumbing, especially if it’s a toilet leak.
